Base Nightclub, Cowgate

Edinburgh’s Base Nightclub opened in 2008, is located in the Cowgate area – in the same place where The Subway club once used to operate – and is fast becoming known as one of the city’s trendiest hangouts for the young upwardly mobile professional and college set.

An ultra-modern lounge that has been tastefully and stylishly decorated, Base features a private VIP lounge that overlooks its vibrant and spacious raised dance floor and VIP guests can thus take in the action without taking focus. The club has also installed technologically advanced and innovative lighting and sound equipment and going to the Base Nightclub is not just a night out but rather a full-on sensory experience. In its first year of business, Base proved so popular that it was voted in as the Best Freshers’ Venue of 2008 in Edin-Out Magazine.

Base Nightclub offers guests themed entertainment nights that feature different DJs playing different styles of music teamed with different types of promotions. No two themed nights are alike and Base patrons should thus always expect the unexpected with DJs jumping from Hip Hop, Mainstream Music and Club Classics to Indie, Commercial and R&B.

Queue jump is also available for these events so guests needn’t cool their heels on the pavement outside while waiting to get through the doors. There are also special deals created just for students, which sometime include free entry to the club and low, set prices on all drinks including Mainline Spirits, draft beers and selected bottles. With friendly bar staff, no dress code and awesome specials on drinks, what more could a fresher club-goer want?

Lave and Ignite Nightclub, Tollcross

The Lava & Ignite is one of the largest nightclubs in Edinburgh. With five bars, three large rooms and more than adequate dance floors, this hot club has much to offer its guests, making it one of the more popular venues in the city. It’s located in the Tolcross area on Lothian Road, making it very accessible by people on foot as well as by car.

Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, Lava & Ignite has something to offer for both the student and older crowds. Friday nights are for the 21 and over clientele while Saturday nights cater both younger and older club goers. Sunday night is student night, offering plenty of drink specials. The club is often the busiest in town on this night, with over 1000 guests showing up to party.

You can hear a wide assortment of music at this venue ranging from RnB to Chart to Cheese to 70s music. With its separate rooms, the club allows you to move around depending on your taste. You can easily choose another room if one isn’t playing what you’re looking for. The largest dance floor is in the center of the main area, and no drinking is allowed while dancing.

Because of its large size, Lava & Ignite hosts many big events. Such events include foam parties, end of term celebrations and bank holiday nights. With its many drink specials, especially on student nights, it is a popular place for many looking to meet new people and have a good time. To avoid long waits for service, many groups of club goers find tables and place larger orders, saving trips to the bar.

Many people rave about this club. Coming from a previous incarnation fondly known as “Cav,” the club has been refurbished to please its large clientele, with plans for more renovations in the works. However, its popularity hasn’t diminished and it will continue to function through the changes. Loyal guests may see more changes made, but the bottom line is Lava & Ignite will continue to please its clientele and provide a hot party spot.

With the good crowds it attracts, guests are sure to make friends with others their own age and gain a meeting place for more good times to come.
